My name is Oliver Palmer, MA, LPCC, and I am a mental health therapist who works with individuals and families affected by adoption and foster care. I want to empower parents to feel secure in their parenting skills, support them in their adoption journey, and provide guidance on common difficulties and patterns. It can be helpful to provide parents with an attachment and trauma-focused lens to look through to help them understand how children who have been affected by past trauma may be using their behaviors to communicate their needs.
I also emphasize the importance of self-care for adoptive parents who are feeling burnt out. When working with children, I ensure a safe and caring environment where we can explore their past and present together.
I use a trauma and attachment informed approach to understand how a client’s past shapes who they are and what they need from their caregivers and significant adults.
